Hello friend and welcome, and whether or not you have realized you have just entered into a town of secrets and legend. Do you believe in legends? Can you open your mind enough and see past your pre-conceived reality? Ever find yourself walking the streets and pause as if there was someone watching you? Following you? Could you feel their breathe against your neck and anticipate that moment when it all became true? Ever hesitate when talking to a stranger? Look into their eyes to see something there that would send a chill through you? You couldn't explain it and it's been made to believe that without explanation it couldn't possibly exists, just like that shadow behind you or that rustling in the bushes; the extra set of footsteps and the anxiety of being hunted. I am not here to scare you friend, no only warn you and give you the chance to survive in this unexplainable world. There is something here...something in Volk. Something great in size with a lust for you. Make sure to never find yourself out alone past sunset and if you ignore this and find yourself out alone remember to never look back, keep walking and never stop. Do not run..never run, they like it when you run.
If you choose to ignore my warnings and not believe me when I tell you of this - ignore this and I must say how sorry I am for you, how sorry I am of your fate. And one more thing...welcome to Volk.
Werewolf, lycans, wolf-men, shifters and skin walkers, they have been called many through the centuries and across the globe, but they all bring one image to your head; FEAR
WHAT THEY ARE
Beasts. That would be the most simplest way to describe but of course there is more than just claws and fangs you see. It's hard to describe just what exactly they are, as they can be considered both man and beast living in one body. Human one day, and a animal under the full moon. What they are is lethal.
Ablessing or a curse is up to you to decide. but those born a werewolf only shift after they reach sexual maturity. For females it is around the age of 16 and males at the age of 18-21.
Those bitten will come across their change under the first full moon prior to the infection. Leading up to that is an extremely painful process however, one that most don't survive. Someone suffering from infection will experience high fever, irritable behavior, swelling of the open wound, aggression, hallucinations and the list goes on from there. Only the strongest survive the process and once you have completed your first transformation it does not mean you are out of the woods yet. Your transformations will continue to be painful each time for many years to come. but hey, some say it's worth the price for being immortal.
For reproduction, werewolves can only produce offspring with other werewolves. There are no hybrids what so ever.
Human form, they are like you and I in every physical aspect. Their animal form on the other hand is not like anything else you have ever seen before. You would not look at them and easily mistake them for a wolf or dog of any sort.
The wolf is an interesting looking species-- caught between beast and human which vary in different colours of grays, browns, blacks and occasionally white hues. Their legs are strong, thick like trunks and have jaws that could chew through steel. Just like their human bodies, they vary from size and weight depending on their structure. Females from the shoulder can be as tall as 3'5'' to 4'5'' while on all fours, males it is usually 4'0'' to 4'5'' and even the odd 5'0''. They are usually 25% to 50% heavier than their human selves. Though they don't look entirely like a wolf, they vocalize and communicate the same way and often act on their instincts as an animal would. VISUAL AIDE ; VISUAL TWO
Werewolves are incredible strong, quick, have an amazing sense of smell and hearing ability. Though witches have a good defense mechanism such as their magic, werewolves dominate strength in every case. with this being said, they are extremely hard to kill. They heal at incredible rates and move quicker than you think they would given how large they appear.
Doesn't mean it's impossible however; a shot to the brain or a vital organ could potentially kill them, or enough wounds to have them bleed out before the healing process kicks in can also finish the job.
Silver and wolfsbane. The two most hated things among wolves; both are a werewolf's true weakness no matter what form it takes. If it comes into contact with their skin, it burns them like the fiercest fires and if it makes its way into their body it can spell out a painful death in a matter of minutes to hours. Hunters who track the supernatural use it religiously to take down their prey, others may use it to poison their enemies and some to keep the wolves from their doors.
The full moon. Under that illuminating orb there is nothing they can do than to succumb to their instincts and change. It can be deadly if they happen to shift at the wrong time and the wrong place and even worse for anyone around them when it happens.
Magic; witches can prove to be a deadly opponent if you corner one. They've got all kinds of tricks up their sleeves that can be deadly for a werewolf. For the Krosa thankfully it is forbidden for a pictish witch to harm a werewolf with their magic. but for anyone else, you better hope you're quick enough to stop a witch before they summon something nasty your way.
Werewolves tend to keep to themselves when it comes to their personal life in the presence of humans. They try to avoid bringing them in at any cost, due to the fact they hold a very dark secret. Though they may have friends and coworkers who they spend time with that are human, they hold them at an arms length. It's best for them in the end as it keeps everyone from running into danger.
Werewolves crave other werewolves' company. pack life is crucial for a werewolf's survival, even with their super human abilities, they need each other for guidance, protection and interaction to function properly. Loners don't usually stay loners for long because of this.
Werewolves stay true to the pack structure. though Athenians and Krosas are very different from one another, they follow the same picking order. and alpha, betas, subordinates and an omega.
Aweek before the full moon, werewolves begin to experience many changes going through their body, Regardless of their age. one being they need to feed more often-- gaining 10 to 25 pounds before the change in order to sustain themselves. They become more aggressive and their mood and senses seem to enhance. You could say they are more dangerous just before their shift than they are after it. Once the full moon is gone, they drop the weight and are more 'balanced' both physically and emotionally.
The werewolf kind are a very touchy kind; now let me clarify that before you get some funky ideas into your head. While this doesn't apply so much to the Krosa as they look at this as something 'barbaric', wolves often 'mark' each other with their scents. Both in human form or wolf, whether it be a hug, a hand shake or two shoulders touching, their scents are constantly mixing with one another, sharing information whether it be their pack identity or who they belong to. Pack wolves all generally share the same scent, making it easier to decipher who is an outsider or an ally. Mates will often 'mark' each other to let others known they belong to someone else. They also tend to do this with property and belongings as well as a form of communication of who owns what.
May also be called pagans, wiccans, warlocks, sorcerers and wizards, but don't necessarily fit the image that might come to one's head when thinking of these terms. Witches are truly fascinating and mischievous creatures if you ever come across one.
WHAT THEY ARE
They have a strong connection to nature and all it's living creatures, passing down their beliefs from generation to generation they are the true guardians of all things created by the earth-- including the super natural. They practice magic both in solitary and in groups to keep with their ancestral roots. Magic does not follow a particular religion, but they do share traditions and beliefs among one another.
You are never transformed into a witch. there is no infection, no venom and certainly no bite that could give you the powers they possess. You are born a witch, it runs in your blood. but that is not always true for some. Some are born completely human, with no magical abilities what-so-ever even with two full blooded witch parents. It happens, no one can truly explain why, and so there are some children who are born surrounded by magic, but not truly magical themselves.
As for how the breeding mechanics go-- a witch and a witch can successfully produce an offspring, just as a human and a witch can as well-- but it increases the chances of a human offspring being born by doing this. A werewolf and a witch cannot produce an offspring. It is seen as unnatural and a disgrace to a coven if discovered having relations with a werewolf.
note:to avoid confusion there are NO hybrids whatsoever. even when a human and a witch reproduce, the child is not half witch and half human with half the power of a full blooded witch. they are either born HUMAN with NO powers or WITCH with powers and are as capable as any witch child with two witch parents. their powers are like learning an instrument; some are just naturally good at it, others aren't, but it's the practice and proper skills that makes them good at their gift.
As mentioned before, they appear like anybody else you see on the street. There is no physical difference between a human and a witch, which makes it extremely difficult detecting one. Even their scent is extremely similar to a humans, though with a good nose, you can separate the two. The one big thing that gives them away is that they are immortal.
Their strength is in their magic. Simple as that. And their magic can be extremely powerful if you encounter a fully trained witch. They can throw an object twice their weight across the room with just the flick of their wrist if it so pleases them, boil your coffee with the touch of their hand against your cup and unspeakable things. Things that would be considered sinister like raising the dead. Some things take a simple thought for them, a snap of their finger and others take rituals, spells and sometimes asking a favor from a spirit or two. All of it varies from the task they are trying to accomplish. but they are careful with their magic, especially around humans. Magic is prohibited in the presence of others unless used to protect or aid the Krosa. but as time has passed, older generations have let things slide and the younger generations have continued to find ways around their rules.
They may be immortal like their werewolf counter parts, but they are very much like humans when it comes to their weaknesses. They can get sick, get cancer, and get severely injured if they face danger, just like humans. Witches can often help the healing process on others, but they cannot do this on themselves, and so when they are in mortal danger, they must rely on doctors and others to help them.
Magic takes a lot of energy. it's not like witches can just spew off a million spells at their enemy. It takes a toll on them after awhile and can lead them to being both physically and mentally exhausted. Some will feel aches and pains as if they had done a work out or headaches and even as extreme as being bed-ridden or fainting. As well, if they use up so much magic in let's say, a fight, their magic may be weakened for a few days.
They are a secretive bunch, even hiding a few things from the Krosa whenever they can. They hold a meeting with the coven once a month on the full moon, often in the wilderness, where they perform different rituals depending on the seasons and have a get together of some sort, often resulting in a bon fire party to celebrate. A future leader is often chosen by their current one who will experience a vivid vision of them. A similar process is done when selecting high members in the coven as well. Some, such as the lamia's detest humans and werewolves alike and strive to prove that witches are the superior race while others like the pictish strive to protect the citizens of Volk, the nature that surrounds them and remain loyal to the Krosa family who they owe their lives to. Other than that, they live totally normal lives. well, as normal as they get for them.
Witches are also very intuned with their senses. Though they don't have enhance hearing or smell or anything along that line like the werewolves, they can detect energy and pick up on other's moods quite easily. Without even being in the same room, they can pick up how many persons are in the other room and what species they are without by a 'buzzing' sensation that runs through the tips of their fingers. This is the same for emotions as well, which will vibrate at a different frequency depending on the mood and how strong it is.
Witches can make a huge impact on the nature around them. Their moods can have a garden of roses dying in a matter of hours from any negative energy around them to springing back to life by a positive influence.
Humans, homo sapiens, meatbags-- they too go by many names, but one all commonly refer to them as; Unaware
WHAT THEY ARE
Just your every day folk here in the city, trying to make a living for themselves here. Most if not all are totally unaware of the mythical presence around them. Some choose to ignore any signs that there is something very wrong with volk city and others flat out deny it. Some humans aren't from around here, but know very well that humans are not the ones in charge here. They know about werewolves and witches and anything else that goes bump in the night and they hate them for it. Some out of jealousy, most out of fear. They hunt them, hoping to wipe out the entire population of freaks one day. These sorts of people though, they don't live very long lives or enjoyable ones for that matter and are never welcomed into the city of Volk.
Humans are totally unaware of the existence of werewolves and witches unless they are hunters. And of course there is the excuse of humans being born of witch parents-- but they are disclosed from all coven activities and thus know very little about it. But in general, humans go about living their lives without knowing what goes on behind the scenes. Some know there isn't something right about Volk, but won't start asking questions around the city. People who tend to do this disappear.
